Password to Uninstall Symantec Antivirus Client

February 14th, 2009 · Comments Off · Tech Suport

The default password that should work for most of the Symantec Antivirus Corporate Edition client uninstallation is “symantec“.

If the default password doesn’t work.
1) Go to Start -> Run and type regedit
2) Navigate to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\INTEL\LANDesk\VirusProtect6\CurrentVersion\Administrator Only\Security\
3) Double click on the value name “UseVPUninstallPassword” and change the value from 1 to 0
4) Close the registry and retry the uninstall.

Outlook showing red x instead of

None of the fixes with deleting registry keys, MS Office repair, deleting temp folders worked. The problem was with Internet Explorer. Check this:
Open Inernet Explorer -> Tools -> Internet Options -> Connections -> LAN Settings
Uncheck all boxes (proxy, automatic detection etc.)

explorer.exe wont load after reboot

January 28th, 2009 · Comments Off · Microsoft, Tech Suport

Using LogMeIn after restarting the computer I was getting blank screen (blue), with a mouse cursor, nothing else. This happened to the computer that was infected with several viruses and after cleaning and rebooting this was a result. I coudl use CTRL+ALT+DEL to start Task Manager, but from there I could not start Windows Shell (explorer.exe) - the error message was that the file is not found, even though I could navigate to C:\Windows directory and see this file.

There are 2 registry keys in the registry that are causing the problem. It affects the explorer.exe and iexplorer.exe files.

This is the key that needs to be deleted…

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution Options\explorer.exe

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution Options\iexplorer.exe

Once these keys are deleted the desktop and internet explorer should come back to life.

Windows 2003 PHP session problem

November 14th, 2008 · Comments Off · General

Today I had a problem and I have no idea how it started - maybe the patch that was the part of Windows Updates - who knows. The problem was that the session files were created as read-only. Subsequently they could not be written to and web applications were reporting an error like this:

[14-Nov-2008 16:45:51] PHP Warning: Unknown: open(X:\folder\sessions\sess_ec6268fc01eaebb89eb0ea6bdbeae6a8, O_RDWR) failed: Permission denied (13) in Unknown on line 0

I tried many things settings permissions, ownership of the folder etc. I tried to give IUSR_Computer user full access to the session directory, ownership - none worked. I already experienced similar problem before and decided to remove all other rights on that particular folder - especially Creator Owner and IUSR_Computer. The only rights I left were: Everyone and System both with Full Control. This seems to work for now.
